Real ales since 1861
A proper bar, in a proper pub
Be assured, at the Cricketers we provide a wide selection of fine beers. We are one of the oldest, well established, and completely independent pubs on the south coast.
On the bar
Cask ale, kept properly
Real ale is what this pub has been known for since 1861, and it is still the first thing people mention when they walk through the door. Alongside our cask lines you will find a wide range of fine beers, plus wines, spirits and cocktails.
Our cask selection is drawn from local breweries, so what is on can change. Ask at the bar and the team will talk you through today's line up, and pull you a taster if you are undecided.
We look forward to welcoming you in our pub to sample and experience our fine beers.
Since 1861
Independent, and staying that way
One of the oldest
The Cricketers Arms has stood on the corner of Carlton Place since 1861, and is one of the oldest and best established pubs on the south coast.
Completely independent
No pub group, no chain. The pub is owned and run by John Cooney, which is why the beer range and the welcome are our own.
Local by default
Our real ales are locally provided, and all the produce in our kitchen is sourced locally too.

Somewhere to sit
Pints inside, out the back, and out the front
There are outside dining and drinking areas at the rear of the pub in a private enclosed patio, and also at the front of the pub in the newly pedestrianised Carlton Place.
We show live sport both inside and in the covered outside area, so there is always somewhere to watch the game with a pint in hand.
Opening hours may vary on home football games, when we often open early. Check our Facebook and Instagram for up to date information.
Eating with us too?
Book a table and we will have one ready next to the bar.
